About Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese relaxation and healing technique. Reiki means Universal life energy. A Reiki practitioner allows the flow of Reiki energy through their body, out their hands and into the client's body. A Reiki session takes place on a massage table. The client is fully clothed and the practitioner uses a series of hand positions either directly on or just above the client's body. The experience is very relaxing and relieving of stress; it is not uncommon for the client to fall asleep.

 

Benefits of Reiki

During a state of complete relaxation, Reiki can work its healing on deeper levels as it does not require conscious effort to heal. All the client needs to do is relax, be open to receiving the energy and healing and enjoy. Reiki helps to clear blockages within the body's energy systems and meridians for deeper healing. For the purpose of healing emotions Flower Essences work well with Reiki as they help clear specific blocks and balance emotions.
 

Reiki is beneficial to anyone looking to relax and reduce stress and improve their emotional health. This form of healing is gentle and safe but very effective. It is great for people of all ages including elders, children and babies. Also great for pets!

Reiki for Everyone Workshop

This workshop will teach you how to tune into your own natural healing ability. Each week a learn a new technique that can be used with or without Reiki.

Such as:

• Power up healing by receiving a group Reiki Healing attunement. Reiki brings relaxation, calm and natural healing. This session is like receiving a strong Reiki treatment.
• Be guided through a unique meditation that is designed to ground and align your bodies energy system.
• Choose a flower essence to take.

Great for everyone as no experience is necessary.

There is no life as we know it without salt.  No cell and no organism can exist without salt. 

1. An eight-year study of a New York City hypertensive population stratified for sodium intake levels found those on low-salt diets had more than four times as many heart attacks as those on normal-sodium diets – the exact opposite of what the “salt hypothesis” would have predicted. (1995)

2.  An analysis by NHLBI’s Dr. Cutler of the first six years’ data from the MRFIT database documented no health outcomes benefits of lower-sodium diets. (1997)

3.  A ten-year follow-up study to the huge Scottish Heart Health Study found no improved health outcomes for those on low-salt diets. (1997)

4.  An analysis of the health outcomes over twenty years from those in the massive US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES I) documented a 20% greater incidence of heart attacks among those on low-salt diets compared to normal-salt diets (1998)

5.  A health outcomes study in Finland, reported to the American Heart Association that no health benefits could be identified and concluded “…our results do not support the recommendations for entire populations to reduce dietary sodium intake to prevent coronary heart disease.” (1998)

6.  A further analysis of the MRFIT database, this time using fourteen years’ data, confirmed no improved health benefit from low-sodium diets. Its author conceded that there is "no relationship observed between dietary sodium and mortality." (1999)

All this means that there is no scientific proof that tells you to reduce salt in your diet… for the general population you will be less at risk to heart attacks or strokes if you don’t reduce it… 

Also, read this… In 1999, the Canadian Hypertension Society, the Canadian Coalition for High Blood Pressure Prevention and Control, the Health Canada Laboratory Centre for Disease Control and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada issued a joint statement going against the general recommendations for sodium reduction.

This means that they believe that minimizing the amount of salt in your meals is not the way to go… so feel good about using salt… you’re doing yourself good… and when you use salt make sure you’re using the purest and most health promoting salt on the planet… Himalayan Crystal Salt…

What is Active Release (ART)?

Active Release (aka Myofascial Release) Techniques is a system of treatment for soft tissues such as muscle, tendon, nerve and fascia. Injury to these tissues occurs in many ways; such as, repetitive strain, acute trauma, and injuries from holding a position for a long period of time (such as poor posture).

When the body is injured, its response is to heal the tissue. This is accomplished by initiating an immune response. Our immune system sends cells to the damaged tissue to clean and protect against infection and then repair the damage. This is the stage of healing in which there is inflammation and acute pain.

Fibrous connective tissue, or scar tissue, is the main tissue involved in repair. When scar tissue develops, the body tries to lay it down as quickly as possible. It is not concerned with the direction the fibres are being laid down, rather its job is to mend the wound as quickly as possible to prevent further injury. The laying down of scar tissue is a natural and beneficial process and a necessary step that needs to occur when our body is wounded. The healing process requires time and rest and should be honoured.

Scar tissue, however, can become a problem. This type of tissue is depleted in blood flow and resistant to movement. Over time, it can start to pull on the surrounding tissue which, in turn, injures them and causes scar tissue to spread out over a larger area. It is imperative to keep scar tissue mobile and the surrounding tissue strong to prevent ongoing injury.

Once the tissue is healed enough to withstand touch, techniques such as active release are extremely beneficial in keeping it mobile. Active release involves a precise hand placement over the site of injury. During treatment, the muscle in which the scar tissue resides is first shortened by moving the limb; this creates slack in the muscle. A precise hand contact on the scar tissue is made which takes up any remaining slack and the scar is held against its own resistance. Then, either active movement performed by the client, or passive movement performed by the therapist lengthens the muscle in the opposite direction. This motion effectively sheers the muscle in the opposite direction of the scar tissue. The result frees up the scar from the surrounding musculature allowing for more free flowing movement.

This shearing motion is highly effective against nerve entrapments from tight musculature which cause symptoms of Sciatica, Carpal tunnel syndrome and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Massage therapists are trained in methods to address scar tissue using a variety of manual techniques. Active release technique is a method gaining increasing popularity. Rest assured that massage therapists who choose to specialize in this therapy participate in an intensive training program and are tested on the techniques before receiving certification to use them in practice. Consult your massage therapist if you are experiencing discomfort due to old scar tissue injuries. Taking an active approach to your health care may be the key to manifesting a better quality of life.
